Joseph Pilates revolutionised the world of exercise with his system of mind and body conditioning, known as “Contrology.” His approach incorporated bodyweight exercises on a mat and exercises performed on various specially designed equipment. Each piece of equipment in the Pilates system has a unique role in re-educating the body and achieving different objectives.
At VIPilates, we believe in preserving the genius of Joseph Pilates method by offering a comprehensive training course. Our comprehensive training covers not only mat exercises but also the complete range of equipment, ensuring that you receive a well-rounded education.
Our Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training programme includes the following pieces of equipment: the Reformer, Cadillac, High Chair, Wunda Chair, Arm Chair, Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector, Arc Barrel, Pedi Pole, Foot Corrector, Toe Corrector, Bean Bag, Neck Stretcher, Magic Circle, Weighted Pole, and Hand Weights. Each piece plays a vital role in enhancing your understanding of the Pilates system and its ability to meet the unique needs of each individual.
Beginner System
Duration: 3 days
Content: This level will cover the fundamentals of Pilates, including the principles and concepts of The Method, as well as anatomy. It will also focus on integrating exercises and apparatus within the beginner system covering classical apparatus. The Reformer, The Cadillac, The High Chair, and the Mat, Toe Corrector and Foot Corrector.
Intermediate System
Duration: 3 workshops spread over 6 days total
Content: intermediate-level exercises on the Mat and Reformer, Cadillac, High Chair, Baby Arm Chair, Wunda Chair, Ladder Barrel, Pedipole, Small Barrel, Spine Corrector, and Magic Circle.

Advanced System
Duration: 3 workshops spread over 6 days, reviewing and practicing on on all studio apparatus the advanced exercises .
Upon completion of the Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Levels, you will gain confidence in your abilities, and will be inspired to deepen your knowledge and teach others.
Before you are considered, you must demonstrate a familiarity and comfort with Pilates workouts on the apparatus and complete a minimum of 20 Private Lessons with a Classical Pilates Instructor whose lineage can be traced back to Mr Joseph Pilates.
Your commitment
- Completion of all in-person training across Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Levels.
- Accumulation of 400-600 hours of in-person training through apprenticeship, sessions, and classes
- 20 teacher meetings.
- Completion of a 450-hour apprenticeship including self-practice, practice teaching, session and class participation, and observation passing all written and practical assessment
- Reviewing all online video content provided by VIPilates Classical Studio
- Participating in a minimum of 60 classes and privates throughout the duration of your study.
Course Preparation
We take course preparation seriously to ensure that each candidate is equipped with the foundational knowledge and skills needed to successfully complete our Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training programme. As part of our course preparation process, each candidate must take an initial assessment with Sarah Janes before starting the course.
During the assessment, candidates may be asked to perform a series of intermediate exercises on the Mat and the Reformer. You can request a list of Intermediate exercises from our syllabus and watch Sarah demonstrate the Intermediate Mat sequence in the video below:
We understand that not all candidates need the initial assessment, especially if they they are already a certified instructor and confident about your skills and abilities.
If you believe that you meet the criteria for exemption from the initial assessment, you can directly request an enrolment form. Exemption is granted to certified instructors or individuals with significant prior experience in Classical Pilates. This allows us to acknowledge your expertise and streamline your admission process.
Our next available Teacher Training course starts in 2025 and will take place at our flagship studio in Sutton Coldfield.
18-month course breakdown;
A total of 120 delivery hours on the course itself
Attendance to 20 apprentice meetings, 1.5hrs each meeting
