Today we want to shine a spotlight on Jules, our Pilates instructor, who has recently completed the Menopause Champions course at the Kathryn Colas Menopause Academy (KCA). With her newfound knowledge and skills, she has proudly earned her CPD certified Menopause Champion title! We wanted to share her news and celebrate her dedication to creating a supportive environment within our studio community.
A KCA Menopause Champion is an advocate for menopause awareness in their workplace. It’s not just about understanding the physical changes; the certification is about creating a safe space for conversations and support. Jules, motivated by her own experiences and desire to uplift others, wanted to enhance her confidence in guiding and championing those navigating this significant life transition.
“Menopause may come with its own set of challenges, but I truly believe it can also be a time for rejuvenation,” exclaimed Jules. ‘Embracing the journey through peri/menopause can be challenging, but Pilates offers a gentle yet effective way to ease the transition.”
Pilates is a great low-impact exercise that not only strengthens muscles but also enhances flexibility, balance, and overall body awareness. As women experience changes in their bodies, Pilates provides a safe space to reconnect with themselves, reduce stress, and alleviate common symptoms such as hot flashes and mood swings.
Physical Benefits include:
- Bone Health: Menopause can lead to a decrease in bone density, putting women at a higher risk for osteoporosis. Pilates stretches and strengthens muscles which have a positive effect on supporting bone strength, reducing the risk of fractures and maintaining mobility.
- Muscle Strength: As estrogen levels decrease during menopause, muscle mass tends to decrease as well. Pilates targets major muscle groups, helping to build strength and enhance overall muscle tone.
- Joint Flexibility: Menopause can bring about joint stiffness and discomfort. Pilates exercises focus on improving flexibility and mobility, promoting joint health and reducing the risk of injury.
- Powerhouse Strength: Pilates emphasises engagement of the central muscles, leading to better posture, stability, and balance. This is particularly beneficial as menopause can sometimes cause a shift in posture and balance control.
Psychological Benefits include:
- Stress Relief: Menopause can be a stressful and overwhelming experience for many women. Pilates encourages relaxation, mindfulness, and deep breathing, helping to alleviate stress and improve overall mental well-being.
- Mood Enhancement: The mind-body connection in Pilates can help improve mood and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression commonly associated with menopause.
Body Awareness: Menopause often brings about changes in body image and self-esteem. Pilates promotes body awareness and a positive self-image, empowering women to feel more confident and comfortable in their own skin. - Energy Boost: Many women experience fatigue during menopause. Pilates can help increase energy levels, leading to a greater sense of vitality and overall well-being.
As our Jules beautifully puts it, “Menopause is a time to prioritise self-care and well-being, and practicing Pilates is a great way to do this—it’s our time to shine!”
We invite you to join us in the studio and take this opportunity to invest in yourself. Lets come together, stretch our bodies, and empower each other in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. Embrace this moment for self-care and connection because you deserve it!
