In the world of Classical Pilates, few names command the respect and admiration that MeJo Wiggin does. With over three decades immersed in Joseph Pilates’ original method, MeJo has honed an approach that is precise, transformative, and authentic. She was affectionately called “Poetry in Motion” by Romana, who presented her with a Gold Card in 2002 in recognition of her exceptional skill.

Having built her foundation in Greenwich, Connecticut, and now based in Charleston, South Carolina, MeJo continues to share her expertise globally, training thousands of instructors and clients. Her approach isn’t about trends and modifications; it’s a rigorous return to the authentic principles that make Pilates a lifelong discipline for strength, control and grace.

VIPilates is proud to announce that we will be hosting MeJo Wiggin for an intensive two-day workshop in March 2026. This is a rare opportunity to study with her in the UK. This event is for experienced comprehensively trained Classical Pilates teachers only. To maintain the integrity of the group and ensure a focused learning environment, participants must present valid certification upon booking. Spaces are strictly limited to preserve the depth of interaction and feedback during the two days.

Why This Matters for Classical Teachers

MeJo’s workshops are not about novelty; they are about fidelity. Every correction, every transition, every breath cue is rooted in Joseph Pilates’ original intentions. Participants leave with a sharper eye for detail, a deeper kinaesthetic awareness, and a renewed commitment to the system’s principles. For those who have trained comprehensively in the Classical lineage, this is a rare moment to align your practice with one of the method’s most authoritative voices outside the USA.

About MeJo

MeJo Wiggin began her Pilates journey in 1990 under the guidance of master instructor Romana Kryzanowska. She had the privilege of learning from several distinguished figures in the field, such as Sari Mejia Santo, Kathy Grant, Edwina Fontaine, Jay Grimes, and Bob Liekens. By 1995, she was teaching alongside Romana at Drago’s Gym in New York City. She earned her initial certification in 1996 and was personally selected, mentored, and advanced by Romana in 2003 to become a Level III Teacher Trainer for Romana’s Pilates®.

MeJo has since become a highly regarded presenter, leading engaging workshops across the United States, Europe, Australia, Russia, South America, and China.

She played a key role in launching Romana’s Pilates Teacher Training Program in New York City, where she prepared aspiring instructors for apprenticeships, oversaw their hands-on assessments during certification, and delivered specialized sessions for both trainees and continuing education for certified professionals under Romana’s Pilates® program.

Widely acknowledged as one of the foremost experts in the discipline, MeJo was affectionately called “Poetry in Motion” by Romana, who presented her with a Gold Card in 2002 in recognition of her exceptional skill.

Her work appears in more than five instructional DVDs, including the Romana’s Pilates Mat Series, Romana on Pilates: The Legacy Edition, and Pilates Revealed with Jay Grimes. She also created her own productions, such as 20 Minutes Twice a Week and The Gratz™ Arm Chair—the inaugural video showcasing Joseph Pilates’ original Arm Chair equipment. MeJo is a prominent instructor on platforms like Pilatesology and Pilates Anytime, has been featured on national television, and has been profiled in various publications for her mastery of Classical Pilates.

In 1996, MeJo established the first comprehensively equipped Pilates studio in Greenwich, Connecticut. Her precise observation and expert touch have transformed the physiques of hundreds of clients, including notable figures like actors Bryce Dallas Howard, Liza Minnelli, and Michelle Pfeiffer; professional athletes; and ensembles such as the Paul Taylor Dance Company, Alvin Ailey Dance Company, and Cortez and Company Contemporary Ballet. Among her dedicated longtime clients is supermodel Stephanie Seymour, a close friend.

MeJo excels in adapting the Pilates method to support individuals with injuries, scoliosis, back issues, and other challenges. Her effective results earned her endorsements from physicians at New York’s prestigious Hospital for Special Surgery, who regularly send patients to her for pre- and post-operative rehabilitation.

Today, MeJo remains a passionate proponent and living embodiment of the Classical Pilates Method. In 2013, she developed The Classical Syllabus® Continuing Education series to equip instructors from diverse backgrounds with the knowledge and tools to fully embrace and implement the authentic principles of Classical Pilates.
